A Sims 4 war has broken out between goth kids and pastel lovers on Twitter-

I’m past the point of accepting that Sims 4 is, for the most part, a vehicle for microtransactions. It simply is what it is. Now I’m just happy that other people are enjoying the creative process of dressing up their Sims or designing their dream homes, even if that comes packaged at five quid per pop of pixels. If we didn’t draw the line at horse armour, we’ve no reason to complain now.

In a fun move for Sims fans, EA recently offered the opportunity for the community to vote on its next kit, a batch of items and clothes to add to your collection. At first glance, this seems like a cute way to get community input. But, because we’re all on social media, lines have already been drawn.

Dipping into the quote retweets reveals both passionate pleas and people gathering pi…

Epic says it’s ‘looking into’ it after pigeon dating sim maker says she’s not received royalties in 2 years-

Hato Moa, the pseudonymous creator of weird, wonderful, and warbling pigeon dating simulator Hatoful Boyfriend, has a problem. She says she’s not received any royalties from the 2014 HD remake of the game ever since Epic picked up Mediatonic—the studio behind it—in 2021.

On September 29, in the wake of a wave of layoffs at Epic, Moa tweeted her condolences to affected employees hoping the “lovely talented people from Mediatonic” would “find a better place soon”. This seems to have put Moa in mind of her own relationship with Epic, because she soon followed that tweet up with one remarking that she had received “no royalty payment for Hatoful Boyfriend from Epic since they acquired Mediatonic back in spring 2021,” noting that it seems unlikely “sales have been zero for …

Helldivers 2’s themes are bleeding into its community management, and creating a new standard in live storytelling-

Helldivers 2 is setting a new standard for live storytelling, and not a little of that is how the game’s fiction has bled-over into the online interactions between Arrowhead Game Studios and the playerbase. This found spectacular expression last week after the game’s first real misstep, a Sony-mandated account linking requirement, saw Helldivers collectively organise and (what else) review bomb their own beloved game on Steam in an effort to get the situation reversed.

There is something apposite in the Helldivers themselves, albeit metaphorically, hitting upon an explosive solution: even more fitting is that it actually worked. Helldivers 2 has been a huge success for Sony as a simultaneous PC release, already its seventh highest-grossing game ever in the US, and this concerted p…

I can’t believe I’m saying this again but Skull and Bones is delayed again-

I won’t tell you to stop me if you’ve heard this one before, because I know full well that you’ve heard this one before: Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s game of high-seas shenanigans in the golden age of piracy, has been delayed again, and is now expected to be out sometime after April 1.

Skull and Bones had been set to come out on March 9 of this year, which was itself a delay from November 8 2022, a date drawn after various prior postponements going all the way back to fall 2018. The March target struck me as pretty solid—I mean, how long can an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag spinoff game possibly take?—but it turns out that I was being overly optimistic.

Word of the latest delay comes amidst bad news all around for Ubisoft, which said today that it is “facing major c…

Hyte’s updated Y70 PC case range, with more colours and a better touchscreen, looks pretty darn lovely-

Some enthusiasts like a PC case that’s all about functionality of form, sporting great airflow or lots of external connectivity. Others want it the other way around, with RGB so bright the PC could double as an air traffic control tower. But you can have both, you know, or at least that’s what Hyte is suggesting with the new Y70 colour options and extra spiffy touchscreen, on show at Computex 2024.

Joining the four current colour options (Snow White, Panda, Pitch Black, and Black Cherry), you’ll soon be able to get a Hyte Y70 case in Strawberry Milk, Taro Milk, and Blueberry Milk—pink, purple, and blue in everyday terms. Examples of each scheme have been on display at Computex 2024 and I have to say that Blueberry Milk is my favourite by far. It’s bright and fresh-looking, a…

Fans of Pokémon-inspired MMO Temtem are arguing with the developer about what MMO means after Crema CEO says it’s ‘not feasible’ to keep adding content forever-

Temtem developer Crema announced a new game earlier this week called Temtem: Swarm, the latest Vampire Survivorsification of an existing game that eschews collecting and training in favor of all-out inter-Tem violence.

The news did not go over entirely well as some players of the 2022 Pokémon-style game complained about Temtem being abandoned, and that situation did not get better when Kikill0—that’s Crema CEO Enrique Paños Montoya—waded into the fray to tell those fans exactly how they’re wrong.

Temtem is widely regarded as an MMO: The 2018 Kickstarter described it as a “massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure,” and it’s also categorized as such on Steam. But what exactly that means has been a matter of debate literally for years.…

Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrunner beats Ketheric Thorm to death with 11,000 pounds of invisible bear, shaves another 2 minutes off her Honour Mode world record-

Baldur’s Gate 3 has something called Honour Mode—an optional, permadeath difficulty that’s supposed to be the hardest challenge it has to offer. Naturally, a speedrunner just cleared it in under 20 minutes.

While I was over here laboriously planning builds and tentatively shuffling my way through three acts of terrifying boss fights, Mae was studying the way of the bear—the orbital bear, to be precise. In case you’re unfamiliar, here’s the cliffnotes on why this strategy works:

  1. When a creature falls on another in Baldur’s Gate 3, it deals damage.
  2. That damage is based on the weight of the offending creature and the distance they fell.
  3. This damage doesn’t have an upper cap.
  4. This damage is applied without a Saving …

Is Nintendo suing the Palworld devs over a patent on throwing Poké Balls-

Yesterday, Nintendo announced that it had finally turned its baleful gaze on Palworld, and would be pursuing legal action in the Tokyo District Court against developer Pocketpair over alleged patent infringement. But which patents? Nintendo’s press release accuses Palworld of infringing on “multiple patent rights,” but Pocketpair says it doesn’t know which patents it’s supposed to have violated, and Nintendo hasn’t elaborated. While we wait for more specifics on the lawsuit, I’ve been digging into patents held by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company to see where Mario’s lawyers might be anchoring their case. After a crash course in patent research, I’ve got a strong suspicion that Nintendo’s bringing Pocketpair to court over Poké Balls.

One point of clarification befor…

I’ve become a proper ultrawide convert so here are my six picks for the best Prime Day ultrawide gaming monitor deals-

If you’re thinking of taking the plunge and buying an ultrawide gaming monitor this Prime Day, well, I don’t blame you. I never used to be a fan of ultrawides, but having used quite a few over the past few years and experiencing the benefits of a stretched out screen, I have to admit I’ve become a convert.

  • We’re curating the best Prime Day PC gaming deals right here.

Being able to stretch out multiple windows over a very wide screen boosts productivity, there’s no doubt, and—while it takes some getting used to for gaming—once you’ve gone wide, it’s difficult to go back.

But if you thought going ultrawide meant spending ultra money, you’d be wrong. I’ve collected five of the best ultrawide gaming …

Las Vegas’ dystopia-sphere, powered by 150 Nvidia GPUs and drawing up to 28,000,000 watts, is both a testament to the hubris of humanity and an admittedly impressive technical feat-

Las Vegas is a city known for its commitment to the excesses of human consumption. Here, you can gamble away your life savings, drink yourself silly in its many over-priced bars, and generally live out your high-roller fantasies in the middle of the scorchingly hot and dry Nevada desert.

Now Nvidia has revealed that the displays of the now-iconic Las Vegas Sphere—a gigantic spherical entertainment arena sitting at the heart of Sin City—are powered by 150 of its RTX A6000 desktop workstation GPUs.

For those that like big numbers, well, hold onto your hats. Each of those GPUs feature over 10,752 cores, 48 GB of memory and have a 300 W TDP, for a grand total of 1,612,800 cores, 7,200 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a potential maximum power draw of 45,000 W at full ti…

Dark and Darker promises ‘absolutely no pay to win,’ but admits it can’t survive on sales alone-

Dark and Darker’s demo version briefly became one of the biggest things on Steam during last month’s Next Fest event, but the devs at Ironmace still have a lot of things to figure out. Chief among them? How the hell they’re gonna make money off their very popular game.

In a recent Discord Q&A with a developer called SDF, we learned that Ironmace won’t be able to keep Dark and Darker online with game sales alone, that its run out of space in its office, and that—despite all that—the studio doesn’t really know how it’s going to monetise the game when it finally releases.

When asked what its “plans for monetization features” were, SDF was only willing to commit to “A monetization model that players can understand,” which isn’t exactly rich on detail. Likew…

Call of Duty 4 is one of the best-selling Steam games right now, but only because you need it to play an ambitious Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mod launching this week-

There’s a Call of Duty climbing the top sellers list on Steam right now, and it’s not Black Ops 6. It’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, the 2016 re-release of 2007’s Call of Duty 4. It’s currently number three on the best-selling games list (by revenue) in the US and hanging out in the top 10 worldwide, beating out the likes of Dota 2, The First Descendent, and Baldur’s Gate 3.

That’s a bit weird at first glance—the remaster going on sale for $20 somewhat explains the sales bump, but it doesn’t account for why this one not particularly active CoD remaster is outselling every other game in the series and most other games on Steam.

The real reason for the renewed interest is way more fun, and very PC gaming: There’s a long-awaited fan mod coming out this week th…

Remnant 2 dev tells players moaning about Apocalypse difficulty OK, fine, you can have your 3 orange slices and medal for participation-

Remnant 2 is one of 2023’s unique experiences, a third person roguelike Soulslike shooter with a heavy focus on procgen environments that is really rather excellent. It’s a game designed for multiple playthroughs, solo and co-op, all of which should turn out differently. And it’s also brutally tough when it starts ramping up with the highest difficulty, Apocalypse, inspiring a bit of moaning even among the die-hards.

Apocalypse is not for the faint-hearted and can fairly be described as the endgame challenge when you already know what Remnant 2 has to offer: bosses and tougher enemies will one-shot you, even grunts are deadly, and your build and execution has to be spot-on for any chance of survival.

Thus it was that, shortly after launch, some players had a bit of a whine a…

Dredge is finally getting a fiend-free fishing mode and map markers-

Directionally challenged anglers and frightened fishers rejoice, Dredge is getting some nifty new additions over the next few months. Black Salt Games has laid out a roadmap for what’s to come in the eldritch fishing horror, with three free updates and one paid DLC in the works.

The first two updates should be arriving fairly soon, and will mercifully add two of my most-desired things: Map markers and a passive fishing mode. I semi-complained about the lack of map markings in my Dredge review—while it was nice having to try and get my bearings and remember locations, I struggled to keep track of smaller side quests and points of interest without any sort of automatic or manual way to mark them all.

The update will let you individually mark out things like shipwre…
